For the fourth year, Public Health Delta and Menominee Counties will be offering free health screenings for seniors 60 years and older.
Although no one is turned away, the program focuses on seniors with little or no health insurance.
According to health officials, the grant from the Upper Peninsula Area Agency on Aging provided enough funds for 74 senior screenings. Trained public health nurses provide blood and urine analysis, check body mass index and vital signs. They also screen for diabetes and colon cancer.
"By coming here and getting some of these testings and health screens, they're able to see where they have deficits or needs, and we can help them be referred into the community for other resources," says nursing director Debbie Poquette.
