The Delta County Airport will be receiving a nearly $1 million grant for runway, taxiway and apron improvements.
Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow announced on Friday that the $902,500 grant will be coming to the airport, which will help make air travel safer.
"Funding for these improvements means safer and more efficient air travel for travelers to and from the Escanaba region, and that's good news for local residents and the local economy," said Senator Levin.
Senator Stabenow added that it is vital to the region's economy to have safer and faster air travel to the Upper Peninsula.
"I am pleased this funding will support critical improvements at Delta County Airport to help keep travelers safe, reduce flight delays, and promote economic development in the region," added Senator Stabenow.
The grant, which comes from the Federal Aviation Administration, will help pay for replacement and widening of existing pavement on one of the airport's two runways. The money will also be used to rehabilitate faded markings to aid aircraft movement and improve safety.
