The Delta County Jaycees held their 19th annual duck races on Saturday in Gladstone. Over 4,200 ducks were off to the races at Van Cleve Park. Each duck is paired up with a raffle ticket. Heats of 300 ducks are run to narrow down the field for the finals. Owners of the winning ducks win raffle prizes. Proceeds go to the Delta County Jaycees who distribute money to local charities at the end of the year. While the crowd was not as big as usual there were some who braved the rain to watch the races.
"Of course we would like better weather but we still do have people that come out," Duck Race Chair Kassandra Howard said. "We have some people that are here now with umbrellas and they're just hanging out to take a peek at the ducks and see if there's will win."
There was also a 5K, kids games, picnic and live music. The final race was at 5:30PM with the unlucky duck race right after.
