      Delta County politician facing embezzlement charges

      A former Escanaba City Council member and Mayor Pro-Tem is facing embezzlement charges in Delta County. This stems from an investigation of embezzlement of funds from the Escanaba Eagles Club.

      On Monday Leo Evans was arraigned in Delta County District Court on one count of embezzlement of $100,000 or more, which is a 20 year felony charge. The case has been bound to Circuit Court. His next court date has not been set yet.The Michigan State Police handled the complaint. Further details on the case will not be released until clearance is given by the prosecutor's office.

      Evans resigned his position in April. The position has been filled by Michael Sattem.
