Delta County SAR annual raffle fundraiser

Volunteers from the Delta County Search and Rescue team need your support. For the fourth year, they are holding their annual raffle to raise funds for the teamâ??s operational needs.

A five dollar ticket gets you the chance to win a Weatherby turkey shotgun, kayak, wild boar hunt or many other valuable prizes. The ticket sales support Delta Countyâ??s 20 volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The team specializes in ice and swift water rescue, missing persons, and high-angle rope rescue. The money raised is used to purchase the supplies they need.

â??You donâ??t really realize that you need it until youâ??re stuck in that emergency which is usually the worst possible emergency that you could think of whether you fall through the ice, youâ??re stuck in a raging river or youâ??re lost in the woods,â?? said DCSAR director Tate Thompson. â??These are very frightening experiences.â??

The team hopes to raise $10,000 this year.

Tickets are available from any SAR volunteer, at Mike Sands State Farm in Escanaba or at the Delta County Sheriffâ??s office.

The raffle drawing is September 13 at the Rapid Rivers Lions Club.
