      Detroit teen drowns at Little Presque Isle

      UPDATE : 9:30 p.m.

      A 19-year-old man died in a drowning incident after the Marquette County Sheriff's Department Dive Team found him in approximately 25 feet of water on the north side of Little Presqe Isle around 3 p.m Sunday.

      According to the Michigan State Police, Kenny Rubbet of Detroit was one of four teens swimming in Lake Superior. Rubbet was unable to reach the island.

      Others in the group tried to help him but were unsuccessful because of the rough water conditions.

      Rubbet was transported to Marquette General but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

      Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post, Marquette General EMS, the Marquette Township Fire Department and the US Coast Guard assisted at the scene.


      The Michigan State Police and the Marquette Township Fire Department are investigating a possible drowning at Little Presque Isle.

      First responders were on the scene around 3 p.m.
