      Dogs compete in Escanaba

Dogs and their handlers competed against each other in Escanaba Sunday.

The United Kennel Club's Agility Trials is a two-day competition. Dozens of dogs of all breeds ran through an obstacle course with their handlers. Each run is timed, but the scores are based primarily on precision. Arlene Rauschl of Rumely competes with her dog Sophie, an English Coon Hound. Sophie was the only hound in this weekend's friendly competition.

"She had a problem in one of her earlier runs today, and it's like, it's no big deal. It happens. Sometimes we mess up, sometimes they mess up. But it's just a lot of fun," said Arlene.

Sophie scored three perfect rounds Sunday. She is working toward earning her Grand Agility Championship.
