Dogs find permanent homes after local fundraiser

On Sunday, dogs and their owners helped raise money for Because of Mandy, an organization that saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the U.S.

The Al Quaal Recreation Center was filled with over 50 four-legged friends as they enjoyed food, candy, and a chance to meet new friends.

Because of Mandy was started three years ago after Amiee Ryding rescued a Puggle named Mandy from a kill shelter.

Thanks to Sunday's event, five dogs got a new home.

"It's awesome because our supporters are amazing and we appreciate everybody coming out and saying hi. It's been a really good day," said Aimee Ryding, founder.

This was the very first year for the event and with such a great turnout, another event will be held again next year.

Ten dogs are still looking for a permanent home.
