Donate coats to keep kids warm

Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming is holding its third Keep Kids Warm event.

On Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon, more than 100 volunteers will be out in neighborhoods in Negaunee and Ishpeming collecting new or gently used winter clothing.

They're asking for your donations to be placed in bags outside your house and they'll pick them up.

"Tomorrow is the culmination of the project," said organizer Richard Derby. "Over 6,500 collection bags have been distributed throughout Ishpeming and Negaunee and now, tomorrow we're asking people throughout the community to do their part, it's a small part but it's really important to make the project a success."

If you are unable to donate on Saturday, you can drop off your winter clothing at Wesley United, the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee.

Once collected they will be taken to the Ishpeming Armory and distributed on October 27.
