Typically a bike race occurs outdoors, but one group put a little twist on the typical bike race. The Western Marquette County Health Foundation held the fourth Head to Head Bike Race at the new YMCA in Negaunee Saturday. Dozens of riders participated in the event that pitted teams challenging each other on stationary bikes. In previous years the race was known as the Bell Bike race.
Money raised from the event goes towards scholarships for participants of the YMCA in Western Marquette County.
"There's a lot of families who are struggling right now and scholarships help folks be part of the YMCA so they can get in, get active, and get their families involved in different activities," said Lisa Coombs-Gerou, CEO of the Marquette County YMCA.
The race is unique because all of the participants are racing each other in one space instead of spread out across a distance which helps create a feeling of community and a more challenging atmosphere.
