The Negaunee Beautification Committee is working on getting new benches for some of the parks in the city, and you can help. The committee is looking for residents to donate their old, used cell phones. They'll recycle them and then use the money to buy new benches for Pocket Park on Iron street in Negaunee. The old benches are severely weathered and damaged.
"There's no cost to us in getting the phones to the recycle; it fits well with our philosophy of improving the environment, not only just in our own parks, but in a bigger scope to recycle cell phones," said Anna Mattson of the Negaunee Beautification Committee.
The new benches will cost about $200 each. You can also sponsor a bench for that cost. Cell phone drop-off sites are being set up at the Midtown Bakery and Negaunee City Hall. The deadline for the drop off is June 1.
