Early literacy supporters meet in Iron Mountain

A large gathering took place in Iron Mountain to promote and encourage early literacy in Michigan. The event was hosted by Great Start of Dickinson and Iron Counties and included a special guest speaker from Lansing.

The purpose of the event was to bring to light the benefits of early literacy, not only for the child, but also for the community. Some of the parents who are affiliated with Great Start shared testimonies on how reading with their child at an early age is a great thing. ??I just think that reading is very important,?? said mother, Jennifer Margis. ??Teaching your children, preparing your children, and it's our job as parents to do so, and it's fun!??

Other parents remarked on the expanding vocabulary their children have as a result of intentional reading at an early age. Community organizations were also present to provide resources and materials to facilitate early literacy.
