Negaunee elementary school students took a field trip Thursday to the Michigan Iron Industry Museum.
The Lakeview Elementary School third graders take the trip every year as part of their Michigan History Social Studies unit.
Teachers say they like this event because the museum touches specifically on the iron ore industry and the role it played in the area's history.
While at the museum kids got to watch a video and participate in a scavenger hunt.
"To come here and see hands on, see pictures, be able to touch things and hold things and actually see iron ore kind of alive is invaluable, a great experience for them," says third grade teacher Sabina Carlson.
Teachers say students were most excited to go outside on the new trails surrounding the museum.
