The recognition continues for Ishpeming's Eric Dompierre as he is now one of three finalists for a state fitness award given by the governor.
Dompierre is the high school student with Down Syndrome who battled the Michigan High School Athletic Association for the opportunity to play high school sports past the age of 18. On Thursday, Eric and his family will be going to Ford Field for the awards ceremony.
He'll also be visiting a Kalamazoo athlete competing in track because of Eric's battle.
"I'll feel proud because I did something that helped me and her do something me and her both like to do," said Dompierre.
Eric has also been nominated for a people's choice aspect of the governor's athletics awards. To vote for Eric and see the stories of the other nominees, click here.
