The Fitness Awards were handed out in Lansing on Thursday by Governor Rick Snyder.
Among the recipients was Ishpeming's Eric Dompierre. He received the Charles T. Kuntzleman Accepting the Challenge state fitness award.
Earlier in the day, Eric, along with the other honorees, were introduced in the Senate chamber. A banquet Thursday night capped a day of festivities focused on staying fit and healthy.
On Friday, Eric and his family plan to travel to Loy Norris High School in Kalamazoo to watch Elaena Boureau run track. She's competing as a result of Eric's petition to change Michigan's high school age limit.
