      Escanaba accident victims identified

      Officials say we should know sometime next week whether or not anyone will be charged in the fatal car/motorcycle accident outside Escanaba, Thursday afternoon.

      The Delta County Sheriff's Department says they're still conducting interviews with witnesses and both drivers of the cars who may be at fault.

      David Awbrey and his wife, Karen, were killed when their motorcycle collided with the oncoming gray car which entered their lane after being rear-ended by the red car.

      Officials say they're still working out the details as to what exactly caused the accident and who specifically is at fault.

      The drivers of two cars, Jill Hammerberg of Rapid River, and Gerrad Godley, of Flint were taken to the OSF Saint Francis Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

      More information has been released in the fatal car/motorcycle crash in Delta County Thursday afternoon.

      The accident happened on M-35 and County Road 521 shortly after 2 p.m., Thursday. According to the Delta County Sheriff's Department, the crash involved two cars and a motorcycle.

      The driver of the motorcycle and his passenger were killed. They have been identified as 62-year-old David Awbrey and his wife, 58-year-old Karen Awbrey of Muscatine, Iowa. The drivers of two cars were taken to the OSF Saint Francis Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Police have identified them as Jill Hammerberg of Rapid River and Gerrad Godley of Flint. The accident remains under investigation.

      Police continue to investigate a deadly crash just south of Escanaba. Two people on a motorcycle were killed in an accident involving two cars.

      The accident happened on M-35 and County Road 521 shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Investigators say the drivers of the automobiles were taken to the OSF Saint Francis Hospital. Their injuries don't appear to be life threatening. But when the accident happened, both the passenger and driver on the motorcycle were thrown off the bike. Both were killed in the crash.

      "The motorcycle was heading southbound and the two other vehicles were heading northbound. One of the vehicles went to turn left on 521 here, the vehicle behind it smashed into the rear end, sending the other vehicle into the other lane, hitting the motorcycle that was heading southbound," said Delta County Sheriff's Deputy, Ryan Morin.

      Accident reconstruction specialists from the Michigan State Police Post in Negaunee were called in to help investigate the accident scene. The names of the two people killed have not been released yet.

      It has been confirmed that two people have been killed in an accident on M-35, Thursday, south of Escanaba.

      The accident involved two cars and a motorcycle.

      According to the Delta County Sheriff Department the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle were killed in the crash.

      The occupants of the other two vehicles sustained multiple injuries and were transported to OSF in Escanaba.

      M-35 was closed due to the crash and traffic had to be detoured. As of 5:15 p.m. authorities are asking people to avoid traveling on M-35, Ford River to Escanaba.

      The accident is still under investigation.

      According to TV6 reporter Beth Jones there has been a fatal accident involving two cars and a motorcycle on M-35 in Escanaba.

      The accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday.

      The driver of the motorcycle was killed, while the passenger of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries and has been transported to OSF in Escanaba.

      The drivers of both cars suffered non-life threatening injuries and have also been transported to OSF.

      There was a multiple vehicle accident on M-35, south of Escanaba by the Ford River Bridge at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday.

      The crash has caused traffic to back up in both directions on M-35.

      Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff, Ford River Volunteer Fire Department, Rampart Ambulance are still on the scene at this time.

      According to TV6 reporter Beth Jones, there may be one fatality.

      Other injuries and the number of vehicles involved are not known at this time.
