Escanaba's Municipal Beach is officially open, and it's twice as big!
Last November the city dredged Municipal Dock and piped the sand on to the beach. The process typically needs to be done every 10 to 12 years. This time, 14,000 cubic yards of sand was transferred.
While at the beach, guests are monitored by lifeguards and have access to rest rooms, play structures, a wading pool and much more.
"You can come down here with the family, come down here and just enjoy the facility," said Escanaba's Recreation Director Tom Penegor. "We have grill areas, picnic tables; you can have lunch down here. Just take advantage of being outside, being on a great lake and enjoying the atmosphere."
Lifeguards are on duty and the beach house is open from noon to 7 p.m. seven days a week when the weather permits.
