The city of Escanaba has been preparing to welcome hundreds of visitors and tourists to kick off the celebration of their sesquicentennial.
Organizers of the two week long celebration teamed up with the Delta County Chamber of Commerce to sponsor the series of events that will take place, which includes a golf tournament, a half marathon, as well as a host of concerts and festivals. Most events will be held at the State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, but local vendors, restaurants and businesses are prepared to host large crowds during the festivities.
Esky 150 Chairperson, Kay Johnson, expects the tourism to generate a lot of business within the local economy. She says, "All of our restaurants are expecting to have extended menus and hours. Our downtown merchants are gearing up with historical window displays, so we really believe working with the Chamber of Commerce is going to bring in a lot of tourism and give people a chance to see how beautiful our city is."
The sesquicentennial celebrations will go from Friday, June 28 to Sunday, July 14. For more information on events and times, go to their website at www.esky150.org .
