The City of Escanaba is making plans to improve their downtown main street area.
The Downtown Development Authority met on Thursday with the city engineer, discussing streetscaping plans for Ludington Street.
"We don't want avenues of trees down the middle of the street," said Downtown Development Planner Colleen Simons. "We've been considering expanding the sidewalks to give the pedestrians more space to walk through the downtown area."
The DDA says it hopes to get grants through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Plans include vegetation, designated bike paths, bike racks, lower level street lighting along buildings and hanging flower baskets on each corner.
