The former Escanaba teacher and hockey coach who pleaded guilty to sex crimes with minors will spend the next eight months behind bars.
Wednesday, 46-year-old Ward Johnsen was sentenced to eight months in jail and five years probation.
Back in November, Johnsen pleaded guilty to aggravated indecent exposure, attempted accosting of children for immoral purposes, attempted use of computers to commit a crime, and attempted distribution of sexual explicit visual or verbal matter to children.
Although Johnsen chose not to speak in court, his defense attorney spoke on his behalf.
"He always expressed to me that he brought this on himself," stated Defense Attorney Sarah Henderson. "He's never tried to assign blame on anyone else for his actions. But I do know he's devastated by the harm he's caused his family and this community."
Johnsen will be credited for one day already served in jail. Under probation guidelines, he must also register as a sex offender.
