The North Woods Conservancy in the Keweenaw is hosting a fall color 8K run this Saturday, and it's aimed at raising money for several projects the group is working on.
The Fall Color Classic takes place on the Gratiot trail head in Ahmeek at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The course goes through the woods and along the lakeshore before ending back at the trailhead.
The North Woods Conservancy is currently working on saving Seven Mile Point and the Keweenaw beaches. Race coordinators say they wanted to have the race sooner this year, because all the colors were gone at this time last year.
"It's just a way to raise awareness about the land conservation in the Keweenaw and kind of what we've been doing and get runners interested and walkers interested," said Race Coordinator Kate Griffith. "Come out with your family and just have a nice stroll in the fall colors and beautiful weather, and it's supposed to be nice this weekend."
