Negaunee City Firefighters responded to a house fire at 10:15 Saturday night.
The homeowners were sleeping when the fire started. Smoke alarms woke them up when the fire started, and they were able to escape unharmed.
Upon arrival at 413 New Buffalo Road, firefighters saw black smoke coming from the windows.
Officials say the fire caused heavy smoke and heat damage inside the home, and itâ??s believed to be a total loss.
Negaunee City Firefighters were recalled to the home at 5:39 a.m. Sunday after a neighbor called in that the fire reignited. Firefighters spent three hours putting out the remaining hot spots Sunday morning.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
The Marquette County Pigs and Heat Fund is helping the family with a temporary place to stay and necessities.
