      Fatal accident reported near Felch

A Foster City man died after authorities say the pickup truck he was driving crossed the centerline into the path of an oncoming logging truck.

The accident happened Saturday on M-69, just off of M-95 in Sagola Township at around 2:20 p.m.

A witness told the Michigan State Police the 54-year-old driver of the pickup was heading eastbound when it appeared the driver took a sharp turn into the path of the westbound logging truck. The force of the crash sent the pickup 30 feet away from the site of impact and the engine even further.

Crews had to extricate the body of the pickup driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the logging truck did not sustain any major injuries but was taken to the Dickinson County Hospital as precaution.

A portion of M-69 was closed to traffic until 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Assisting the Michigan State Police were the Sagola Township and Felch Fire Departments. Environmental crews were called to the scene to clean up spilled oil and gasoline.

Names have not yet been released, and investigation into the accident is still underway.
