The Food and Drug Administration is looking to pet owners to help solve the cause of illnesses from jerky treats.
The agency linked illnesses from jerky pet treats to 3,600 dogs and 10 cats since 2007, adding more than 500 of those pets have died. After thousands of tests at the manufacturing plants in China, the FDA has yet to find the exact cause of the illness.
Mares-Z-Doats pet supplies store recommends pet owners avoid the dangers by purchasing jerky products made in the U.S.A.
"I guess now with a lot of recalls that have happened I would recommend people going for American made," said manager Jennifer Hallinen. "Most of them are putting if they're American made on the front of the packet."
Decreased appetite and or activity, vomiting and diarrhea are signs your pets ate bad jerky treats.
