Firefighters were called to the WE Energies Presque Isle power plant in Marquette Tuesday night for a report of a roof fire on the number four building. The fire broke out just before 9:30 p.m.
There were no injuries. The fire was confined to a diesel exhaust ventilator being used to vacate air from the building in support of an asbestos abatement operation.
The situation was complicated by potential asbestos contamination of firefighters. Firefighters were decontaminated on the scene. The diesel air handling unit was damaged during the course of the operation.
It was a three alarm fire. Marquette County Rescue 131 was also called to the scene. Firefighters cleared the scene at 11:15 p.m.
