Michigan State Police report that one person has been killed in a fire that destroyed a Negaunee Township home.
One resident of the house, 69-year-old Daniel Juchemich, was able to escape the blaze. His wife, Rosemary Juchemich, 63, was unable to get out and died.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the state fire marshal.
A family home in Negaunee Township is a total loss after a fire broke out on Tuesday night.
The initial call came in just before 11 p.m. The home, located on Hoist Road, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The fire was intense, and extreme cold compounded the problem. There were reports of frozen air packs for the firefighters, as well as water freezing as it was being brought in. Further details are expected later on Wednesday.
The Negaunee Township Fire Department was the main responding team, with the Negaunee City Fire Department, Marquette Township Fire, and Marquette County Rescue 131 among the agencies responding.
