      Fire destroys Sands Township home

      An early morning fire destroyed a Sands Township home on the 400 block of Silver Creek Road. The fire was reported at approximately 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

      Neighbors say they heard a loud explosion before they saw the home engulfed in flames.

      The two residents and two animals were all out of the home during the explosion.

      Sands Township Fire Department and Chocolay volunteer firefighters were on the scene to contain the fire. They were assisted at the scene by Marquette County 131 and Sands EMS along with Skandia-West Branch Fire.

      No cause of the fire is known at this time.
