Fire parade kicks off Fire Prevention Week

Kids and their parents got to know the fire departments of Marquette County at the 19th annual kickoff parade and static display in acknowledgement of National Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme is "Protect your family from fire." Twelve fire departments were present from all over the county with over 25 fire vehicles present.

"It's really nice to have this many fire apparatus in one place," said Captain Steve Hodgins of the Marquette City Fire Department. "The kids love it. It helps us get the message through to the kids and the kids, of course, bring that home to the parents. And that's really important with smoke detectors and having a plan to get out of the house."

All firemen present were on-call, ready to go, in the case of a real emergency. Fire Prevention Week lasts from October 9 to the 15.
