There is an investigation into a barn fire in the Keweenaw that started Wednesday afternoon. It happened at the farm of John Dunstan on Houghton Canal Road in Stanton Township. The call came in around 5 p.m. The home and barn are located just south of North Superior Road in Stanton Township.
After approximately two hours, the barn was knocked down and reduced to a smolder. An excavator was brought in to pull hay out of the barn to distribute water more effectively. Stanton Township firefighters remained at the scene overnight to continue to put out any flare ups. Firefighters left the farm around 1 p.m. Thursday. There is considerable damage to the barn. The Stanton Township Volunteer Fire Department and first responders were at the scene. There is no word on the cause of the fire, and there have been no injuries reported.
