Fire Safety poster contest winner rides in fire truck

One little girl in Marquette received recognition from the Marquette City Fire Department Tuesday morning.

Father Marquette Elementary School second grader, Amelia Bouws, was awarded a free ride to school in a fire truck Tuesday morning because she had the winning poster from a contest during National Fire Safety Week.

Amelia's poster portrayed an escape plan for her family in the event of a fire.

When asked how she felt about riding in the fire truck, Amelia expressed that she was a little nervous.

"I'm very scared. I don't know why," said Amelia.

The firefighters, along with Sparky, the fire dog, escorted Amelia from her home to visit her grandmother and then to school.

National Fire Safety Week is the second week in October every year.
