Fireworks Committee still in need of funds

The Marquette area Fourth of July Fireworks Committee still needs help raising funds for their goal this year.

The committee is hoping to reach its goal of $50,000 this month, but they're about $10,000 short.

The money is needed for a down payment on the 2015 fireworks display. The fireworks display, set off from Marquette's Lower Harbor, wraps up a weekend celebration the committee calls the greatest celebration in the north for the Fourth.

"We're excited about it, it's always a big celebration, a lot of classes come home, hold class reunions, families come together and the park down here is a gathering place," says Fireworks Committee Chair Tom Baldini. "The community has been very generous; we're not quite at our $50,000 yet. We're over $40,000 and so we're going to use this month really to close that gap."

Baldini also said they're trying to synchronize this year's fireworks display to music using local radio stations.
