Saturday, June 14 several people in the community will commemorate Flag Day.
Elks representatives from Marquette, Negaunee and Ishpeming will hold a Flag Day ceremony in the Chapel of the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
Past ceremonies have included the citing of the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance.
The Marine Corps League Detachment 764 will also be passing out flags on Saturday to kids at local businesses.
Veterans want to encourage younger generations to celebrate the importance of the American flag.
There will also be a proper way for people to dispose of old flags.
"You bring it to your local American Legion Post. They usually have a mailbox out front and you can put it in there and on Flag Day and they usually dispose of it during a burn ceremony" says Vietnam Veteran, Rod Aho.
The ceremony starts at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday with a reception following.
