The National Weather Service office in Negaunee Township has issued a Flood Warning for the Trap Rock River near Lake Linden in Houghton County.
Runoff from recent showers and thunderstorms along with snowmelt has caused water levels on the Trap Rock River to rise above flood stage. Although we are expected limited additional rainfall through Friday night, river levels are expected to remain above flood stage through much of the day.
Flood stage in that area is ten and a half feet. At 7:15 a.m EDT Friday morning the water level was just over that mark. Water levels are expected to continue to rise through Friday morning and begin slowly falling through this afternoon. Some minor flooding of low-lying areas of residential property near the Angman Road and Cemetery Road is possible.
Please use caution in and around flood prone areas. Even six inches of fast moving water can knock you off your feet. Two feet of water can float your vehicle. Never try to walk, swim or drive though swift water. Turn around donâ??t drown.
