      Flu clinics galore!

Flu season is upon us here in the U.P., and flu clinics are popping up everywhere.

Doctors say everyone six months and older should receive the flu injection or mist, now, because it takes a few weeks for the vaccine to start working effectively.

The mist is a great option for those who are strong and healthy, such as teenagers or young adults. The injection is ideal for young children and the elderly.

"All of the vaccines will protect against three or four strains of flu, and hopefully there will be a good match between the circulating strains in the communities this year and the strains that are in the vaccine. Last year was a very good match," said Dr. Terry Frankovich, Local Public Health Medical Director.

The flu shot is available practically anywhere these days, and according to doctors, it is 60 percent effective, meaning it reduces your chance of getting the flu by 60 percent, and if you do get it, reduces the severity of the illness by 60 percent.

There are a multitude of clinics in all U.P. Counties, and each county's Health Department has the vaccine available for distribution.
