      Former paper mill on fire

      Fire at the Niagara Paper Mill

      UPDATE:

      The fire broke out around 9 a.m. this morning.Fifty fire fighters, nine tankers, and three fire trucks used over 100,000 gallons of water to put out the flames.Niagara, Florence, Pembine, Breitung Township, and Aurora Fire Departments were all on the scene.A torch used in the demolition process caused the fire.It took an hour and a half to gain control. The flames were finally put out at 4 p.m. and luckily no injuries were sustained. Niagara officials will remain on the scene for the next several hours checking for hot spots.

      The former NewPage Niagara Paper Mill caught fire on Wednesday morning.

      According witnesses who work in the former paper mill there is a fire in the number three paper machine room.

      The Niagara Paper Mill was purchased by Niagara Development LLC in February, 2011. The Niagara Paper Mill was dormant since 2008 until it was purchased by the company.
