Former principal pleads guilty to sexual conduct with student

Benjamin David Franklin II in court

The Alger County principal charged for sexually assaulting a student entered a guilty plea on Monday morning in Alger County Circuit Court.

In March, 35-year-old Benjamin David Franklin II was arrested and charged for criminal sexual conduct involving a female student between the age of 16 and 18. The incidents occured between 2011 and 2013. He was charged with three counts of third degree CSC. As part of the plea agreement, two of those charges were dropped.

Franklin was the principal of Munising Baptist Church in Wetmore. He resigned in March when the charges were brought forward. He was released on bond after he was charged, but his bond was revoked in June after he attempted to contact his victim.

One count of third degree CSC is punishable by 15 years in prison. Franklin remains in the Alger County Jail without bond. He will be sentenced on September 4 at 10:00 a.m.
