Former student president faces embezzlement charge

A former president of the Northern Michigan University student union is facing embezzlement charges in Marquette district and circuit court.

Amber Lopota was scheduled for a preliminary examination in district court Thursday afternoon, however she waived that. The matter now moves to Marquette Circuit Court.

Lopota faces two charges, a misdemeanor embezzlement charge and a felony one of more than $1,000 but less than $20,000. She allegedly embezzled from ASNMU while she was president.

Lopota is next scheduled to be in circuit court on May 9 at 10 a.m.
