      Found: Safe and Sound

      UPDATE: Michigan State Police Wednesday night are reporting they have found Helen Wakevainen. Officials say the elderly Wakevainen is in good condition.

      The 82-year-old woman was located behind the Lake Gogebic Fire Hall just after 7 p.m. Central Time, Wednesday. She had been missing for 24 hours in an area west of Lake Gogebic near M-64.


      The Michigan State Police have organized a search for a missing elderly woman near the Gogebic and Ontonagon county line.

      According to police, an 82-year-old woman has gone missing after going to search for her lost dog. Police say that the dog has since returned, but the woman has not. She has been missing for roughly 24 hours west of Lake Gogebic near M-64.

      The woman, identified as Helen Wakevainen, was last seen wearing a tan winter coat, black hat, black gloves, and Sorel boots.

      Various search and rescue crews, including the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, volunteer fire department and Michigan State Police, are being organized to search for Wakevainen. We will provide updated information as it becomes available.
