Nine people were hospitalized Wednesday following a four vehicle crash in Sands Township. It happened at the intersection of M-553 and Flodin Road at 4:20 p.m. All four vehicles involved were pickup trucks.
According to the Marquette County Sheriff's Office, two trucks were stopped in the southbound left lanes attempting to turn left on Flodin Road. A third southbound pickup truck failed to stop and rear ended one of the trucks. The force of the crash caused the first pickup truck to cross the southbound lanes and come to rest in a ditch. The second pickup truck attempting to turn left was forced into the northbound lane and collided with an oncoming pickup truck hauling a trailer carrying scrap metal.
All nine people involved in the crash were taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Four occupants were children from one vehicle ranging in age from four to eleven-years-old.
The driver that caused the crash was ticketed for careless driving and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. The names of those involved in the crash have not been released.
M-553 had to be closed for approximately one hour.
