Fraternity and sorority team up to fill a food pantry

A Michigan Technological University fraternity and sorority are teaming up to raise money for a local food bank and a national philanthropy by hosting a 5K walk-run on campus this Saturday.

The Triangle Fraternity and the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority will hold the Pi Mile 5k on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Walker Arts and Humanities Center.

Early registration is $10 and $15 on Saturday, with all proceeds going to the Western U.P. Food Bank. The sorority sisters will sell pies to raise money for their national philanthropy to support research of juvenile diabetes.

Race organizers say anyone is welcome to join the race to support a good cause.

"It's a walk-run for charity, so it supports the local food bank up here, which I think is a great charity, and it's a good way to start getting in shape, said Eric Rinkus, VP of Membership for the Triangle Fraternity. "So, if you want an excuse to start running and get in shape, this is a great way to start."

"Even if you're not walking or running and you're just supporting a runner, I say you should have a pie, because who doesn't want a pie at this time," added Alpha Gamma Delta, Beka Horsch.
