Are you and your family looking for a free way to stay active this winter?
Public Health Delta County is holding their second annual free snowshoe rental program, Snow Trek. This program was created to encourage a healthy lifestyle during the snowy season.
â??Sometimes in the winter months itâ??s a little harder to be physically active, and snowshoeing is a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy our beautiful surroundings here in the U. P. while getting some great exercise," said Health Educator, Kristi Steger.
The program is great for any skill level and encourages local exploration.
â??They can go out into the woods,â?? said Tom Penegor, Recreation Director of Escanaba. â??They can go out and explore a lot of different places. If they just want to practice, they can practice in their backyard.â??
Snowshoeing is great for the whole family. Recommended for ages eight and up, it's a great way for everyone to get outside and be active.
Youth snowshoes are available at the Escanaba Civic Center while adult sizes are located at Public Health Delta County, the Escanaba Civic Center, and the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA.
Anyone over 18 with a valid driverâ??s license may rent the shoes, and they can borrow enough for the whole family!
"We hope that many people take advantage of it this year and for years to come," Steger said.
