Fundraiser set to help Houghton Elementary

The Houghton Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and Joey's Seafood & Grill are teaming up to help raise money for new school equipment and library books.

The fundraiser is called "Schools for Schools," and anyone who orders food from Joey's on Tuesday, December 4, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. will have 20 percent of their bill donated to the PTO.

Instead of having students raise money, the Houghton PTO says they feel it's their responsibility to raise funds for the students.

â??We just feel that students should be concentrating on educational things and not having to spend their time going door to door; we're really grateful to have local businesses, such as Joey's, partner with us in these events because when businesses partner with public schools, it just makes for a stronger community all around,â?? said Amy Schrank, president of the PTO.

If you plan on purchasing a meal, Joey's Seafood asks that you mention the "Schools for Schools" charity before you receive your bill.
