Children had an opportunity to field their own dog sleds during the UP200 festivities.
Saturday, the Kiwanis held the annual Kiddie Mutt Races at the Marquette Commons. Kids had a chance to ride down a trail being pulled by a dog. Children up to the age of 12 were able to participate.
"It's great to have these kids come out here. It really gives them an opportunity to come out if they can't go to the UP200, and it's just a fun way for dogs to get tired and for kids to have a lot of fun," said volunteer Melissa Esser.
Attendees were able to harness their own dogs to the sleds and run down the trail. This meant that a large majority of the dogs running the races were not your typical sled dogs.
