The Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes held their annual awards ceremony at Northern Michigan University Saturday.
Numerous awards were given out honoring women of all ages for their hard work and dedication.
Two high school seniors were given the Girl Scout Gold Award. The award is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can get.
Sara Cerne won the award for helping cancer survivors.
"I threw a cancer survivor party for all the survivors in Baraga County and they all got together and and they shared their stories and we had birthday cake and there was a speaker there who shared his battle with cancer," said Cerne.
Cerne said the inspiration for her project came after she found out her brother had cancer.
She also said she is very proud of her award because she put in a lot of hard work.
