Gladstone wastewater treatment plant undergoing maintenance

Some Gladstone residents may be noticing a foul odor in the air. The wastewater treatment plant is having their secondary digester cover repaired.

The 40-year-old floating cover has a few holes. This allows odorous gasses to be leaked into the air. This week the cover was removed to be sand blasted, welded and recoated.

While it is being repaired the wastewater odors may be strong depending on temperature and wind direction.

"When we get a southbound wind it blows the smell into town," says Eric Buckman of Gladstone wastewater. "With any waste water plant you're going to have some odors, but it's even more pronounced because of the leaking."

This 20 to 30 thousand dollar project is expected to be completed by the end of next week.
