The 15th annual Ishpeming Renaissance Festival kicked off Saturday at Lake Bancroft Park.
Exhibitors got into their time period costumes and demonstrated ancient practices from past cultures, such as Middle Ages culture and a little Japanese culture complete with samurai swords thrown in for good measure.
One exhibitor said his favorite part of the festival was keeping the spirit of the past alive in the next generation.
"I enjoy talkin' with the people. I enjoy watching the children and seeing their reactions from the different things that we're doing here. It's all about teaching the young ones...trying to keep something like this alive." said bladesmith Dan Choszczyk.
Audience participation for this year's festival isn't yet known, but last year's attendance was measured at around 2000 people.
