The fourth annual Tom Johnson Memorial golf outing took place Friday afternoon in Iron Mountain to help raise funds for the Iron Mountain Athletic Department.
Tom Johnson is the well-remembered and respected athletic director and community organizer who passed away from cancer. To honor his legacy, supporters of Iron Mountain athletics came together for a special fundraising gold outing. Special guests showed up to remember the man whose Mountaineer pride was strong.
â??Mountaineer pride is alive and well, and so it's always fun to get to an event like this,â?? said Mountaineer native and NFL Network analyst, Steve Mariucci. Iron Mountain Superintendent Tom Jayne said the past events have been very successful. â??To date, we've raised around $100,000 in the past three events and today, we're here for that same reason,â?? said Jayne.
The funds from the past events were used for a new scoring table in the high school gym, new basketball uniforms, and money for meals during athletic travel. Those at the outing said Johnson was a very special part of the Iron Mountain community and will be remembered by many who respected his pride for this area.
