      Golfing to support veterans

For 19 years, one golf outing in Sawyer has been helping raise money for the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. Friday the Jacobetti Home for Veterans Charity Golf Outing was held to do just to do that. Around 30 teams hit the links at Red Fox Run Friday morning. Organizers of the outing were excited for today, but are already thinking about next year.

"For next year's golf outing, if the friends of the local area of Marquette would band together with us and buy hole sponsors, that's a big money fundraiser for the cause," said Ernie Myers of the Michigan Veterans Facilities Board of Managers.

In addition to golf, there was also a 50/50 raffle and a quilt raffle. The winner of the quilt will not be drawn until November.

This year, the outing is expected to raise around $7,000. All of the money goes back to the Jacobetti Home.
