Governor Snyder rings in Escanaba's Maritime Festival

On Friday Governor Snyder rang the ceremonial bell to mark the start of Escanaba's Maritime Festival.

The festival takes place at Escanaba's Ludington Park Marina and ends on Saturday night. Arts and crafts vendors will also be a part of the event and the Inland Seas sailing ship is available for tours.

Governor Snyder says it's an honor for any community to celebrate 150 years.

"Escanaba having its 150th birthday is something to be celebrated," said Governor Rick Snyder. "It's a wonderful community, and if you think about it, it has all the attributes you'd want; a great place to make a living in terms of good jobs, great companies here...but also a great quality of life."

The Maritime Festival will also offer live music and a wildlife lamprey display. On Saturday night, Escanaba's biggest fireworks display will take place at 10:30 p.m. in honor of the city's 150th birthday.
