It's been nine months since the completion of the seven million dollar breakwater project in Grand Marais. The breakwater reduces the amount of sand that flows in and helps the water levels increase in the harbor.Jack Hubbard, the former Grand Marais Township Supervisor and main force behind the project, said now that the harbor is usable, it's having a huge economic impact for the area."It's very emotional to me to have it done and to look at the difference that we made in this harbor," said Hubbard.Residents say this was the first winter the harbor completely froze over, allowing residents to ice fish.It was also the first spring in two decades a boat launch wasn't needed to launch boats.
